When accurate accounts are no longer enough.

As a business grows, the questions change. These are not bookkeeping questions. They are management questions.

Can we afford the next hire?

Why is revenue up but cash still tight?

Which clients or projects actually make us money?

What should next year's budget look like?

What does this decision mean for tax?

Should we distribute, reinvest, or keep the cash in the business?

They need someone who understands both the business and the numbers behind it. That's the role I take on.

CFO advice, with tax already in the room.

A financial decision can create a tax consequence. A tax decision can affect cash flow, structure and profitability. I work across both.

When does a fractional CFO make sense?

Usually, there is a point between “our accountant handles it” and “we need to hire a CFO.” You may be there if:

  • You have accounts, but still struggle to understand performance.
  • Cash flow needs more attention.
  • You want proper budgets and forecasts.
  • Management reporting needs to improve.
  • Tax is becoming part of more commercial decisions.
  • A full-time CFO would be unnecessary or premature.

How we start.

  1. First, we talk.

No presentation. No long questionnaire before we've even spoken. Tell me about the business, how you currently manage finance and what you are trying to solve.

  2. Then I look at the numbers.

If it makes sense to proceed, I'll review the reports, accounts, cash flow, tax position and finance processes relevant to the work.

  3. We decide what is actually needed.

That could be ongoing fractional CFO support, a defined advisory project or simply a few senior sessions around a particular decision.

A good CFO should make the business easier to understand.

If you've reached the point where you want a more experienced person involved in the financial side of the business, let's talk.
